Preparing for my Preliminary Task

We are beginning our course right away with a preliminary task. This task will assess our ability to practically apply the 3 continuity techniques that we learnt about yesterday.

This short exercise must fit the following requirements from the exam board:

"Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule."

With this in mind I started to write my script and draw up my storyboard . . .

Script

My favourite genre of film is definitely sci-fi, closely followed by drama. These genre preferences therefore influenced my way of thinking and consequently, my script. I eventually decided on the rough context of some kind of superior being, plotting to kill someone:

Person 1 (slave): "Have you made your decision?"

Person 2 (superior): "I say we kill him"

Person 1 (slave): "Are you sure becau-"

Person 2 (superior): "don't question me, just kill him"

Storyboard

I drew up my storyboard and then put it into a quick animation to show how it would flow:

Until next time!
